CJ’s suspension: GBA should applaud Mahama for his fidelity to Ghana’s Constitution – Dr. Apaak
The Member of Parliament for Buils South, Dr. Clement Apaak, says the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) should rather commend President John Dramani Mahama over his action on the former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
This comes on the back of the GBA reportedly passing a resolution to call on President Mahama to revoke the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
According to a report by thelawplatform.online, the resolution was passed at the GBA’s Mid-Year conference held at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on April 26, 2025.
The report indicated that members of the bar were disappointed with the suspension of the Chief Justice after getting details of the three petitions for her removal.
Commenting on the development, the lawmaker who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Education stated that President Mahama cannot abandon his constitutional duty.
“It is most unreasonable for any group to demand of a President to jettison his constitutional duty because it is displeased.
“Has President Mahama violated any law or done anything untoward in his handling of the petitions against the Chief Justice? Certainly not. If the GBA thinks otherwise, the courts are there”, Dr. Apaak stated in a Facebook post.
He continued: “In fact, the GBA should rather applaud President Mahama for his fidelity to the supreme law of the land, the constitution. An Association of lawyers asking a President to abandon his constitutional duty, my goodness?”
